BROOKSVILLE - Hernando County School District Technology and Information Director Melissa Harts tendered her resignation from the district last week.
Harts recently accepted an administrative post at Pasco-Hernando Community College's main campus in New Port Richey, and will begin work Monday as Dean of Institutional Technology for the college, according to PHCC Media Relations Specialist Lucy Miller.
Hernando County School Superintendent Lori Romano confirmed Harts' resignation.
"She sent a resignation letter to me 10 days prior to the Sept. 6 official date of leave, and obtained a position with Pasco-Hernando Community College," Romano said. "She is going to be providing services as director of technology to five local sites, and we've posted the position immediately."
Harts could not be reached for comment.
Harts was recently tasked with preparing the school district for Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test 2.0 certification for computer-based testing by this school year.
She also was tasked with providing for the increase in bandwidth to at least 100 megabits per second per 1,000 students and staff by 2014-15, and to at least 1 gigabit per second per 1,000 students and staff by 2017-18.
Harts secured more than a million dollars this year to help the district meet many state mandates for computer-based testing, as well as hardware and software upgrades.
"Those are big shoes to fill," Romano said. "We're hoping to find someone who is very strong and innovative and can move the district forward in technology and learning."
