The first time I saw her, she was sitting on a shelf, gorgeous yet demure, beckoning me to take her home. I couldn't resist. I moved closer and stroked her smooth, soft skin. She looked good. She felt even better. It was love at first sight. A year later, we are still in the honeymoon phase of our love affair.
I'm not talking about a woman, but rather a pair of shoes.
I bought my first pair of Amanda Laird Cherry shoes from The Space in Johannesburg. They were dark blue T-bar flats, and at the time I was going through a phase where I barely touched flat shoes - high heels were my staple diet.
Since then, I have bought every pair of Amanda Laird Cherry shoes I can find, from strappy sandals to ankle boot wedges, and I have them in a range of colours: red, blue, green, brown and black. I look forward to new styles and if available, I buy shoes I already have, in a different colour. I even buy them for other people.
Why do I love Amanda Laird Cherry shoes so much?
Let's start with their looks. They are simply beautiful. They are sexy in an unsexy way. They transcend seasons and trends.
They are also incredibly comfortable. The material is soft - callouses, bunions and other abominations that ruin our feet stand no chance. They're superlight - wearing them is like walking on air.
Even as I type this, I am wearing a pair of simple, ultra-feminine, red lace-ups.
Whoever says local designers aren't world-class clearly hasn't worn Amanda Laird Cherry shoes. They're the kind of shoes that make you never want to wear anything else ever again.
Disclaimer: no one paid me to say these things. I just really love Amanda Laird Cherry shoes.
