A high school student who was robbed at gunpoint in the Silver Terrace neighborhood last week had very little trouble identifying the suspects, police said, as one of them showed up to school the next day allegedly wearing his shoes.
The robbery reportedly occurred Wednesday about 5:30 p.m. when a student was watching a soccer game in Silver Terrace Park, located a few blocks from Thurgood Marshall High School. Police have not said whether the victim and suspects attend that school.
Five suspects approached the student as he was seated near the bleachers. One of the thugs reportedly pointed a handgun at the student, who was ordered to hand over his shoes and jewelry. They also allegedly went through the victim's pockets and took his wallet before fleeing, police said.
The suspects apparently wore nothing to conceal their identities, and the victim identified at least three of them as his classmates. However, he didn't report the robbery right away.
At school Friday, police said, he told a school counselor about the heist after seeing one of the suspects wearing his shoes on campus. Police were called and took three suspects — two 16-year-olds and an 18-year-old — into custody.
The younger teens, whose identities are being withheld because they are minors, were sent to the Juvenile Justice Center. The 18-year-old, whose identity wasn't immediately available, was booked at Bayview Police Station, police said.
All three teens were booked on robbery and conspiracy charges.
Police believe they've gathered pretty strong evidence against the arrested teens.
"One of these students actually videotaped the robbery on his cellphone as it occurred," investigators said.
Police said they are still searching for the identities of the remaining two suspects.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Police Department's anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411 with "SFPD" in the message.
