A shoe drive that started earlier this summer will provide free footwear to people in need.
The Beatrice Church of Christ has been collecting pairs of shoes since June for a drive called 'Sole to Soul.' Organizer Linda Lindell says she couldn't believe how many people responded.
"It just kind of exploded," Lindell said.
Doors will open Saturday morning so people can come pick up a pair of shoes for free. The church is located at 10th and Grant streets in Beatrice.
"We do have people in need in every part of Nebraska, and we just thought that this might be something that we could help and touch some people's lives," Lindell said.
Organizers say they collected nearly 500 pairs, including gently used men's, women's and children's footwear. With an additional $200 in donations, Lindell says they were able to add some brand new shoes to the collection as well.
"We've already had one call from a man that says neither his wife or himself have shoes at all, so we're hoping that they come," Lindell said.
The Beatrice Church of Christ will be open to the public from 9 a.m. til noon on Saturday for people to come pick up shoes. Everyone is welcome.
