Kanye West has been on baby duties for the last two months, but the Yeezus star got back to the day job as he performed Blood On The Leaves at the MTV VMAs in New York last night.
Known for his headline grabbing antics, espeically at the award show where in 2009 he rushed the stage while Taylor Swift accepted an award he thought should've gone to Beyonce, the new dad kept things simple with his rendition of the track.
Performing in dim blue light against a digital forest backdrop, West's face was barely visible throughout the track - talk about a low profile - letting his vocal talents alone impress.

While the rapper might have walked the red carpet alone, girlfriend Kim Kardashian and their daughter North were clearly watching daddy perform as the reality TV star took to her Twitter to congratulate him on the appearance.
Best performance of the night @kanyewest[1] !!!!!!!!!

It appears the arrival of his first born may have changed the star, at least when it comes to performing at the VMAs. Referring to the infamous Swift moment he told Kris Jenner, during an interview on her show that he'd hate that to happen to North.
"My only goal is to protect my daughter." he said, "The last thing I would want for my daughter is for some crazy drunk black guy in leather to come up and cut her off at an award show".
Kanye might have given a more mature performance last night, but that doesn't mean the 2013 VMAs were lacking in the shock factor, with Miley Cyrus' crazy performance of her single We Can't Stop, followed by a duet with Robin Thicke on monster hit Blurred Lines stealing the spotlight.

Rihanna, Taylor Swift and One Direction were seen looking on in horror during the disastorous performance where Cyrus struggled vocally and appeared more concerned in gyrating with dancers and grinding on Mr Thicke in a nude latex bikini, than actually hitting a note.
