At 15, Tim Eaves has already shown an industrious side.
Before he left for summer camp, he bought new school shoes with money he made from buying a surfboard at a garage sale and reselling it on eBay.
Tim Eaves, 15, and his mom, Debbie Eaves, are grateful for the Register Campership funds that helped send him to camp.

He kept the white athletic shoes at home in Mission Viejo so they wouldn’t get dirty when he left for camp with the YMCA of Orange County.
The eBay transaction is something he learned from his dad, an electrician, who was out of work because of the recession. Tim, 15, enjoys going with his dad as he hunts for bargains to sell online.
“He’s like the best kid ever,” said Tim’s mom, Debbie Eaves. “He doesn’t want stuff. He appreciates what he gets.”
Tim, who lives with his parents and two brothers, appreciated the chance to attend summer camp for the second time because of a scholarship from the Register Campership Fund. He served as a counselor in training, working with younger children.
Tim said camp is a fun opportunity to spend time with friends without worrying about getting bored or finding transportation to go places.
“It occupies your time,” Tim said. “You have stuff to do. You really get to bond with your friends. It lets kids get freedom. You get out and just have a good time with your friends.”
Debbie Eaves said her son is an experienced camper from family trips so she didn’t have to remind him to wear sunscreen or bug repellant. She was happy to see him develop more leadership skills. He likes playing sports and is also active at Saddleback Church.
“There’s a lot of love at these camps,” Debbie Eaves said. “When Tim comes, there’s a lot of hugs. He comes back happy, like he really enjoyed himself and is grateful that he got to go.”
When Tim came home after seven days away he said hi to his neighborhood friends and then took a late afternoon nap.
“They set it the perfect amount of days because you want to stay but you’re also excited to see your family,” Tim said of his week at camp.
As summer draws to a close, Tim said he hopes more Orange County kids will get to go to camp next year through the Campership fund.
“For me, it’s worth it,” he said.
