With the Canberra Times Fun Run fast approaching, personal trainer Lee Campbell is calling on everyday Australians to transform and take control of their health and wellbeing.
Mr Campbell, a champion of the health and fitness industry in Australia, recommends a healthy exercise routine for all Australians.
“With the current obesity and diabetes figures in Australia, getting out and going for a walk or a run during the day is very important for improving the average Australians lifespan. And it also puts you in a great state of mind,” he said.
Mr Campbell, 41, has signed on as the Heart Foundation ACT ambassador for the Canberra Times Fun Run.
“The Heart Foundation is one of the key charities in Australia that contributes to the health and wellbeing of Australians. I believe that in my line of work, it's important to support those charities as much as I can,” he said.
A Canberra resident, Mr Campbell has devoted more than 25 years to the health and fitness industry.
He has appeared on TV programs Celebrity Overhaul and BIG - Extreme Makeover and co-authored a fitness book with Ita Buttrose.
Mr Campbell said that the most important thing to remember for every person taking part is it set your own goals.
“It's important for beginners to remember to take it easy and not over hydrate. For the semi-professionals looking to hit a PB, just take it one step at a time,” he said.
“Break the run up. Set your goals as the next lamp post, the next corner, the next hill.”
Mr Campbell gave The Canberra Times some tips for those who may be taking part in their first Fun Run.
“Beginners should make sure their shoes are broken in. A warm up walk and putting Vaseline on any areas that could chafe is essential. Intermediate runners should have a light breakfast and do a short run the day before,” he said.
The Canberra Times Fun Run has now raised $46,065 and has over 5000 entries. It will take place in and around the city centre and Parliamentary triangle on September 8.
Entries can be submitted through canberratimesfunrun.com.au.
