IN A revealing interview conducted just before her VMA debacle, Miley Cyrus told a UK newspaper, "Im messed up. I have so many f***ing issues."
The 20-year-old star[1] went on to say that, "I don’t have a normal life. I take a hiatus every now and again but I’m not good at that.”
Cyrus, of course, stunned millions of fans by wearing nothing but latex skin-coloured bra and pants when she got up close and personal with a variety of teddy bears (and Robin Thicke) at last week’s VMAs.
Her er, interesting performance sparked fears she could follow the likes of Britney Spears and Amanda Bynes into meltdown mode. Cyrus, however, said that she’s never been anything like the goody-two shoes she’s played on television.
"During Hannah Montana I think people knew I was acting. I’ve never been able to hide anything, a bit like Justin Bieber.
"Others who have been on kids’ shows try to act like their characters, but I’m not like that.
"I never pretended I was as good as the Disney Channel writes.
"I don’t wear bright-coloured T-shirts and talk like this all the time."
The VMA hoopla proves once and for all that Cyrus has kissed her Disney past goodbye. In the wake of the show, she told fans her performance attracted an incredible 306,000 tweets a minute.
And she quoted Rolling Stone: "Miley was the one star in the room who understood what the awards are about. Thanks, Miley."
Friend and ex-Disney star Selena Gomez also defended her, saying: "Amazing. It was awesome."
After a game of musical chairs it looks like Harry Connick Jr[2] might be taking a seat at the American Idol judge’s table (at various points, Will.i.am, Sean Combs, Scooter Braun and Dr Luke were all rumoured judges), joining Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban on the panel. (Former judge Randy Jackson will replace Jimmy Iovine as mentor.)
Connick Jr, who has won three Grammy awards and sold over 25 million albums, hinted that he could be joining the enduring show when he retweeted a comment from good mate (and practical joker sparring partner) Ellen DeGeneres last week.
"@HarryConnickJr. might be a judge on American Idol! He loves to follow in my footsteps. It’s like having a boring little brother," said Degeneres.
Connick Jr also revealed in May what he would bring to the table if offered the opportunity. "I think you need to be completely honest and I think you need to be diplomatic,” he said. "I think there’s no reason to be mean, but it's called being a judge."
Khloe Kardashian has apparently given her husband Lamar Odom a final ultimatum – get help for his reported drug addiction or get lost. Although this has been something of an ongoing theme for the couple recently, sources say that the final straw was well and truly broken for Kardashian after her husband’s very public arrest for DUI in Los Angeles on Friday.
Apparently, the NBA star didn’t call Kardashian (or her mother, or Kim, or Kourteney or her lawyers) after the arrest, and needless to say, Kardashian was not happy. At all.
TMZ is reporting that the couple did spend time together over the weekend at their LA home, but Odom was sent on his way after four hours. Sources say they’re still at an impasse and the prospects of saving their marriage are “grim” at best.
The woman who was maid of honour at Catherine Zeta-Jones[3] ’ wedding to Michael Douglas 13 years ago has spoken out about her friend’s “fragile” health in the wake of the couple’s split. Anna Walker, a UK TV host, told The Daily Mail, “The next few weeks will be very tough and I’m very worried about her. This is a very traumatic time and her mental health could be adversely affected.”
Zeta-Jones has been open about her battle with bipolar disorder, and was public about being back in treatment in April, just before she and Douglas separated.
“She’s just had another round of treatment for her bipolar and if she can keep that in check under all this stress it will be a miracle,” said Walker.
“Her mother Pat is with her at the moment, so I know she’s in good hands. And nowadays there is very good medication that can help.”
Douglas and Zeta-Jones have reportedly been living apart for several months, but no decision has been made about a possible divorce. In confirming the split, a rep for Douglas said, “Michael and Catherine are taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage.”
(Over the weekend, Douglas was seen at the Venice Film Festival wearing his wedding ring.)
Walker says that the separation has hit Zeta-Jones hard. “Catherine is very old-fashioned and never wanted to ever go through a divorce,” says Walker. “Her parents have been together for more than 50 years and are her role models. She wanted her marriage to be like theirs.”
